Bed and Breakfast in Scarborough

Introduction

The Hotel is situated in the North Bay with a commanding view overlooking Peasholm Park. The hotel was built in the 1930's and is the last purposely built hotel left in Scarborough. While we aim to meet the needs of all our guests there are some period features which might make access difficult for people with limited mobility.

We are located on a hill on the corner of Northstead Manor Drive and Weydale Avenue. The hotel consists of ground floor and two floors above.

The bedrooms are situated on the first and second floor. Not all the bedroom are overly spacious, though facilities can be used with ease. Unfortunately, there is no lift at the hotel therefore this will make it difficult for people with mobility problems.

  • The hotel is fully central heated and double-glazed.
  • Licensed.
  • Car Park private of road parking for 12 vehicles. The car park is part lawned and part concrete.

Places of Interest

The surrounding interesting venue within minutes of the Hotel are:- - Peasholm Park - boating lake 2minutes across the road from the hotel.

  • Scarborough Cricket Ground 10 minutes walk from the hotel.
  • Scarborough Indoor Swimming Pool - 5 minutes walk from the hotel.
  • Alexandra Bowling Centre - 10 minute walk from the hotel.
  • North Cliff Golf Club - 5 minute drive from the hotel.
  • Sea Life - 10 minute drive from the hotel.

Pre Arrival

  • We are located on a main road. The hotel is situated on a corner site with our own car park.
  • The nearest shops are approximately two hundred yards from the hotel. A ten-minute walk leads to a parade of shops i.e. Post Office, Bakery, Supermarket, and local Greengrocers.
  • The nearest bus stop is approximately two hundred yards from the hotel. The local bus service runs about every ten minutes to town.
  • During the summer months a bus service is available from the bottom of the road, which goes from the North Bay to the South Bay. This service normally stops around 10.p.m.
  • The nearest railway station is Scarborough, which is approximately ¾ of a mile away. Taxis are usually available at the railway station. The hotel will always assist in booking taxis for guests on request.
  • Brochures and menus can be provided in large print if required. We regret we do not have facilities to prepare documents in Braille.

Hotel Arrival and Car Parking

  • Please advise us of your anticipated arrival time so that you can be sure we are here to welcome and assist you.
  • To ensure your accommodation is ready we ask that guests do not normally arrive before 2.00p.m. However, earlier arrival times are possible by prior arrangements.
  • Our car park is situated on a level drive at the side of the hotel. There are two entrances to the car park. We also use the grassed area for parking. The car park is well lit on a night and further security lights also lit the car park on a night.
  • We will be happy to assist guests with their luggage.
  • There are two steps from the main concrete car park and 3 steps with a handrail from the grassed part of the car park.

Main Entrance

  • The steps leading to the front of the hotel is split on two levels. The first level consists of 7 broad steps (6 inches high and 17inches depth) followed a landing of 11ft 6 inches and then 1 step of 8inches high and then a 3ft landing and 1 step of 7inches high.
  • The double front door is normally open but please ring the bell on your arrival.
  • A large ashtray/bin is available for guests to smoke under the canopy.
  • The Foyer - Lobby- Lounge - Bar - Dining Room are all on ground level with no steps. Double doors lead to all areas.
  • Guests are given a front door key. So guests coming in late on a night can gain access at any time.

Foyer

  • The foyer leads to two double doors to the lobby of the hotel and reception.
  • 2 toilets are situated left and right of the foyer.
  • The foyer is carpeted and well lit.

Lobby/Reception

  • To the left of the lobby leads to the Guests Lounge
  • Reception is directly in front and well lit.
  • To the right is the Guests Dining Room
  • Left of the Reception the steps that lead to the bedrooms.
  • Left of the steps is the entrance to the Cocktail Bar
  • The lobby is fully carpeted.
  • Local venues and all information brochures local taxis telephone numbers etc. are available in the lobby.
  • A guest pay phone is also available in the lobby.

Lounge

  • Guests are welcome to use the lounge at any time.
  • The lounge is fully carpeted and central heated
  • A Poole table - cards and board games and t.v. Is available in the lounge.
  • The lounge has fixed soft fabric seating with several armchairs.
  • A patio door leads from the lounge to the garden and during the summer months is open for the use of guests to drink/smoke in the garden. Ashtrays are available on request.

Bar

  • The bar leads through from the lounge and also has a separate door leading from the lobby.
  • The seating if fixed in a draylon material and matching stools. There are high bar chairs at the bar and fully carpeted.
  • The bar has a large bay window.
  • We are licensed for the sale of alcohol.

Dining Room

  • The dining room is fully carpeted and lit with two chandeliers and matching wall lights.
  • There is a patio door leading to the garden. Opened during the summer months.
  • There is a lot of natural light from large windows.
  • Breakfast and Evening Dinners are served in the dining room.
  • We provide high chairs - booster chairs for children.
  • Special diets catered for.
  • Group Bookings - evening dinner times can be altered to suit the hotel and guests.

Landings/Steps

  • The stairs and corridors are fully carpeted.
  • The corridors are central heated
  • The first flight of 8 steps (3ft.3inches wide (9inches dept) (7inches height) leads to a landing and continues by a further 7 steps in the same diameters to the first landing.
  • The second flights of 7 steps (3ft 3inches wide (9inches dept) (7inches high) leads to a landing and continued by a further 7 steps in the same diameters.
  • There are handrails on both sides of the steps.
  • The corridors are well lit and whenever residents are in the hotel and corridor lights are left on 24 hours.

Bedrooms

  • Our bedrooms vary in size with some bedrooms overlooking the park. We are always pleased to show guests around the hotel before they book.
  • A rooming list is available showing where the room is situated in the hotel and which floor and en-suite facility in the room.

First Floor

  • 2 Single rooms - 3 Twin bedded rooms - 4 Double rooms - 1 Family room- 1 Family mini suite (1 Double room - with connecting single/twin bedded room)
  • All the rooms have en-suite facilities- consisting of either bathrooms or shower room.
  • Courtesy Trays - consisting of tea/coffee.
  • Alarm clock
  • All bedrooms are fully carpeted and central heated
  • Our beds are normally made with duvets. All duvets and pillows are synthetic. However, we are happy to provide sheets and blankets if preferred. Please specify before your arrival if required.
  • There is a wardrobe, chest of drawers and dressing table and chair in each room.
  • A guest information wallet is provided in all rooms.

Second Floor

  • 1 Single room - 1 Twin bedded room - 6 Double rooms - 2 Family rooms - 1 Family mini suite (1 Double room with connecting twin bedded room)

As the first floor all the rooms have en-suite facilities, consisting of either bathrooms or shower rooms. *The Twin bedded room has a bath with a shower above. All the rooms are fully carpeted; central heated with courtesy trays, alarm clocks and information wallets.

Garden

  • We have a garden in the front of the hotel. The garden is split into 2 sections. Both sections are lawned with flowerbeds. Guests are welcomed to sit in the garden. Chairs and tables are provided. Also seats are provided under the canopy of the hotel.
  • The patio door that leads from the dining room or front door to the garden has a step 7 inches high - 10inched deep and 7ft 6inches wide leading to the lawn garden.
  • The patio door that leads from the lounge to the garden is flat with not steps.

Additional information

  • There is a fire extinguisher in the lobby.
  • There are two fire extinguishers on the first floor.
  • There are two fire extinguishers on the second floor.
  • There are five fire alarm points:
    1 in the lobby
    1 on the first floor landing and 1 on the first floor corridor
    1 on the second floor land and 1 on the second floor corridor

In the event of a fire the alarms will be sounded. Please follow the fire signs in the bedrooms showing the quickest exit from your room to the fire exits. The building can be evacuated from the fire doors from the first and second landing down the fire escape, which leads to the car park.

We are happy to cater for special diets or any particular likes and dislikes. Please advise us of these before your arrival.
We do have a special vegetarian questionnaire, available on request. We are happy to refrigerate any medication. We can also keep any perishables (fish etc) in our fridge for a limited period. Mobile phone reception at the hotel is generally good.
